WTN Partnership with Minnesota
Minnesota Technology, Inc. is a
$10 million public, 501c(3) non-profit corporation whose mission is to improve the
competitive ability of Minnesota industry through the application and development
of technology. The corporation has 90 employees in six offices throughout the
state of Minnesota. MTI's field staff includes 40 professionals, most of whom
hold engineering or manufacturing business degrees. The field specialists who
work with companies on a daily basis become, in many instances, "adjunct staff"
and are the first person a company turns to when it has questions about technology.
MTI provides low-cost or no-cost services to about 600 firms annually.
Minnesota Technology, Inc. offers companies assistance in accessing and utilizing
technologies developed by federal laboratories. MTI and WTN are establishing a
collaborative partnership to link Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) technologies
and resources to Minnesota companies. This important endeavor will enhance MTI's
ability to provide needed services to Minnesota clients in a timely manner, and
will be a positive promotion of Air Force capabilities. Due to the changing
nature of the production supply chain, more and more suppliers of materials and
components to OEMs are acquiring advanced technology capabilities. Like their
larger counterparts, smaller companies need to utilize technology developments to
stay competitive. As such, they become ideal vehicles for transferring new
technologies from federal laboratories into the commercial marketplace. These
are the companies that make up the MTI customer-base.
