Edison Welding Institute (EWI) is an industrially driven, technology focused research, development and technology transfer Center whose mission is to advance and apply materials joining technology for economic benefit of industry. As reflected by industry investment, return on investment and customer testimonials, EWI has proven to be a key resource for member companies in improving their productivity and competitiveness.

In providing member companies with access to a wide range of materials joining technology, EWI offers consulting services, proprietary project work, basic and applied research, seminars and training. In addition, EWI has a cooperative agreement with The Welding Institute (TWI) of Cambridge, U.K., thereby making available worldwide technology for the benefit of member companies.

EWI expertise covers all aspects of materials joining technology:

• Welding processes - arc, laser, solid state, resistance, brazing and microjoining
• Engineering - mechanical performance, design, fatigue, fracture, fitness-for-service, numerical analysis and computer modeling.

EWI's staff of engineers are adept at rapidly isolating and solving urgent manufacturing problems and investigating failed components both on-site and in the Institutes laboratories.
