Business Overview or History:

Knowledge Base Engineering, Inc. (KBE) is an independently owned and operated small business, located in Centerville, Ohio. KBE is a developer of advanced object oriented software. For the past twelve years KBE has conducted extensive analysis and developed specialized engineering database, configuration management, program management, systems engineering, and multimedia application authoring software for the Department of Defense and NASA. Since 1989, KBE has conducted research and development of the Integrated Knowledge Environment (IKE). The IKE PC Windows Version 5.0 provides government and industry with an integrated set of development tools, which are used to quickly evolve interactive process oriented multimedia applications. The tools provide capabilities to graphically model engineering, manufacturing, chemical, hospital, and other business environments. A fully developed model is used as an automated business or engineering process application. The IKE is being used to develop Integrate Product Team project/process planning, tracking, and management applications for Space and Weapons Systems programs within the U.S. Air Force.

KBE is currently developing the Object Czar™ (Oz). The Oz is a copyright protected computer off the shelf (COTS) enabling technology software products that is being developed under an Air Force Research Laboratory’s Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contract. The Oz provides capabilities to dynamically create and maintain hierarchically structured object oriented databases. The Oz enables the end user to create object classes and associated properties, assign property values, establish object class relationships, and produce reports that contain both text and graphics through transparent interfaces with Microsoft Office™ products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project). The Oz utilizes the Borland Database Engine (BDE) and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) to communicate with local and remote relational databases (e.g., Access, ORACLE, SQL Server, etc.). KBE plans to develop a JAVA version of the Oz for use in Intranet and Internet environments.

The Oz supports dynamic development of engineering, manufacturing, and business applications that require hierarchical object structures such as part, material, chemical, etc. The Ox has been well received by our beta sites. We are integrating it with an emerging Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) technology known as ORB IT (Object Request Broker - Integration Technology) which is being developed by Systran Corporation under a Navy SBIR contract.
